Training is being conducted as we build staff quarters, sheds, drainage and water storage facilities. Construction and maintenance work in the Kep/Kampot area to raise much needed funds is also another avenue where training is being conducted. We would be happy for tradesmen to volunteer and pass on their practical knowledge to our apprentices. One volunteer taught them to weld last year. Now we don’t have to send out welding jobs.
We have 4 participants at present but we are always on the lookout for apprentices to join the team.
In 2009/10 we sponsored 4 students to the 5 star Paul duBrule Hospitality and Tourism School in Siem Reap. They undertook a 12 month intensive training course each studying different areas. We are very proud of our graduates who are now gaining valuable work experience in local businesses. They also provided training seminars to staff at guesthouses and restaurants in the Kep area upon their return
In 2007, in conjunction with the local community, we purchased 2.3 hectares of land in Kampong Tralach, Prey Thom Commune, about 10 kms from Kep, roughly 164 kms south of Phnom Penh. We have planted an orchard and established a vegetable garden and greenhouse. We are experimenting with a different technique of growing rice and have propagated and planted a large number of trees on the property. We will begin fish farming in our dam in the near future as well as begin a pig rearing project shortly. We are also experimenting with raised garden beds.
Workshops for the local farmers are planned when our projects are well established.
